CHOIR DIRECTOR

MISSION AND PURPOSE

Christian worship gives all glory and honor, praise, and thanksgiving to the holy, Triune God.  We are gathered in worship to glorify the God who is present and active among us – particularly through the gifts of Word and Sacrament.  We are sent out in service to glorify the same God who is present and active in the world.  (Book of Order, W-1:0101)

Our mission is to actively invite and encourage people to enter and deepen their personal journey of faith in Jesus Christ and extend Christ’s love and grace to each other and the world around us.

Our worship style and tradition is that of the Reformed Church and is exemplified by our hymnal, Glory to God. The mission of the choir director is to select and prepare music which enhances the worship experience of those participating in the service.

QUALIFICATIONS  (Education/Background)

1. Must feel called by the Lord to this position, with a clear Christian commitment and love for music.
2. Bachelor’s Degree in Music is preferred.
3. Ability to understand the Reformed worship service structure and how to integrate music into that structure.
4. Previous experience directing a choir.
5. Organizational and people skills to lead a volunteer choir.

RESPONSIBILITIES

1. Works closely with the pastor in the selection of appropriate music for worship.
2. Prepares weekly rehearsals for all worship services.
3. Assists members of the choir to gain musical skills and grow in their faith through the texts of anthems and hymns.
4. Prepares music for special services: i.e. Christmas Eve, Ash Wednesday, Maundy Thursday, Good Friday.
5. Participates in educational opportunities for personal spiritual and musical growth.
6. Maintains the music library.
7. Attends Worship Committee and staff meetings, when scheduled.
8. Collaborates with the accompanist.
9. Reports to the head of staff.
10. Participates in an Annual Review with Personnel committee.

PAY AND HOURS

1. This is a part-time position with responsibilities of a weekly rehearsal and Sunday worship. There will also be outside planning time needed to prepare for the rehearsals.  Salary for the choir director is commensurate with experience.
2. Two weeks of vacation and one week of study leave is offered with the position.
