Covington Middle School and Fine Arts Academy in Austin, Texas, is seeking a passionate and dedicated Choir Teacher to join our dynamic team. The ideal candidate will be an enthusiastic educator committed to fostering a love of music in students, promoting artistic excellence, and contributing to a vibrant school community. This role involves teaching choir to students in grades 6-8, directing performances, and collaborating with other fine arts faculty to enhance our comprehensive arts program.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Instruction and Curriculum Development:

    • Develop and implement a comprehensive choir curriculum that aligns with state standards and school goals.
    • Provide engaging, high-quality instruction in vocal techniques, music theory, and performance practices.
    • Plan and prepare lessons that motivate and inspire students to achieve their full musical potential.
  • Performance and Program Management:

    • Direct and manage school choirs, including organizing and conducting rehearsals.
    • Coordinate and lead performances, including concerts, school events, and competitions.
    • Select appropriate repertoire that challenges students and showcases their talents.
  • Student Development:

    • Foster a positive, inclusive, and supportive classroom environment that encourages student growth and participation.
    • Provide individual and group instruction tailored to the varying skill levels of students.
    • Assess student progress regularly and provide constructive feedback to support their development.
  • Collaboration and Professional Development:

    • Work collaboratively with other music and fine arts teachers to develop interdisciplinary projects and performances.
    • Participate in school-wide events, meetings, and professional development opportunities.
    • Stay current with best practices in music education and vocal instruction.
  • Administrative and Community Engagement:

    • Maintain accurate records of student attendance, grades, and progress.
    • Communicate effectively with students, parents, and colleagues regarding program goals and student performance.
    • Engage with the school community and local arts organizations to enhance the choir program.

Qualifications:

  • Bachelor’s degree in Music Education, Vocal Performance, or a related field (Master’s degree preferred).
  • Valid Texas teaching certification in Music or eligibility for certification.
  • Demonstrated experience in directing school choirs or vocal ensembles.
  • Strong vocal skills and knowledge of vocal pedagogy.
  • Excellent communication, organizational, and interpersonal skills.
  • Commitment to fostering a positive and inclusive learning environment.
  • Ability to work collaboratively with a diverse group of students, parents, and colleagues.

Preferred Qualifications:

  • Experience in middle school education.
  • Knowledge of current technology and software applications relevant to music education.
  • Experience in organizing and managing performances and events.
