Chorus Director

A Cappella Unlimited Chorus is a chapter of Sweet Adelines International and is a 501c-3 non-profit community chorus. We compete annually, have earned 1st place 8 times, and have placed in the top 3 every year since 2011. We rehearse once a week in the Music Building at Texas State University. We are seeking a new director to begin May 1. 

Job Responsibility: Choral Director - Is responsible for the musical direction of the chorus

Skills & Qualifications

• Has thorough knowledge of vocal production, acappella genres, and resonance to coach singers effectively. 
• Knowledge of / or willingness to learn about the barbershop style.
• Demonstrates clear, expressive conducting; communicating tempo, phrasing, and emotion to the chorus. 
• Can inspire singers to work hard while fostering a fun, collaborative environment.
• Has experience and shows confidence and competence in making choices about repertoire, performance style, and competition strategies.
• Is skilled in collaborative team dynamics and promotes a supportive and encouraging environment for singers.
• Leads by example—modeling best practices and welcoming feedback to help both the leadership teams and members grow together.
• Demonstrates flexibility and openness with regard to feedback and ideas from the chorus. 
• Has effective communication skills in expressing ideas, creating rehearsal plans, and providing feedback to singers.
• Is experienced in using and assigning multiple learning media, planning and executing rehearsals, securing coaches, and providing music education and vocal instruction.
• Has a strong musical background and is experienced working with musical performances that make use of costumes, choreography, and no-vocal expressiveness.
• Ability to work with groups composed of members of varying musical skill levels
