The Abilene Wylie Choir program is seeking a passionate, energetic, and student-centered Choir Director to assist with continuing to grow a thriving Junior High Choral program. The ideal candidate is a strong music educator who values excellence, relationships, and creating a positive classroom culture where students feel challenged, supported, and inspired to love music.
The position includes directing Junior High choir ensembles, preparing students for concerts and contests, and collaborating with campus and district fine arts staff to support a thriving vocal music program. The position also includes assisting the head Musical Director for the West Junior High musical production, preparing students for auditions, and collaborating with the campus Fine Arts team.
Primary Responsibilities:
-Direct and teach some West Junior High Choir classes/ensembles
-Prepare students for concerts, UIL, auditions, Solo contest, and other performances
-Teach healthy vocal technique, music literacy, and sight-reading skills
-Foster a positive and inclusive classroom environment
-Support recruitment and retention of students in the Choir program
-Collaborate with Fine Arts staff across the district
-Serve as Assistant Musical Director for the annual West Junior High musical
-Communicate effectively with students, parents, and administration
-Attend and support Choir Booster Club meetings and events
-Assist with concerts, trips, contests, and other choir-related events as needed
Program Information
-330 students in the West JH Choir program
-130 students in the HS Choir program
-Strong vertical alignment between junior high and high school programs
-Collaborative, team-oriented Choir department
-Stipend for additional duties, on top of the district teaching salary schedule
Qualifications
-Bachelor's Degree in Music Education (or related field)
-Valid Texas teaching certification (or ability to obtain)
-Strong organizational and classroom management skills
-Experience with musical theatre productions or vocal directing is preferred
-Piano skills and familiarity with UIL procedures and literature are a plus
-Commitment to building a positive and successful Choir culture
