The ideal candidate for this position must hold a Bachelor’s degree in Music Education, Vocal
Performance, or an appropriately related field from an accredited college or university, alongside a valid Texas Educator Certificate in Music spanning Early Childhood through Grade 12. Professionally, this role requires a profound understanding of specialized adolescent vocal pedagogy, vocal change management, and targeted choral rehearsal techniques suitable for students in grades six through eight. The director must demonstrate strong standard piano accompaniment skills, robust score-reading capabilities, and an advanced understanding of Texas competitive structures. Specifically, this includes an expert-level familiarity with the University Interscholastic League (UIL) Constitution and Contest Rules, the UIL Prescribed Music List (PML) for appropriate repertoire selection, and the Texas Music Educators Association (TMEA) Region Choir audition timelines. Prior experience in student teaching or serving as a successful director or assistant director at the secondary level is highly preferred.
